The AI crypto sector posted its strongest weekly performance in recent months, gaining 15.88% to reach a combined market capitalization of $17.43 billion as of March 16, according to CoinMarketCap data.

Trading volume told an even more striking story, jumping 64.34% to $4.19 billion over the same period. The numbers reflect something beyond a routine altcoin rally. They reflect a sector responding to a specific narrative that is gaining real institutional traction.

Why Agentic Finance Is the Catalyst

The term driving this week’s move is agentic finance, the emerging use of autonomous AI agents that execute financial transactions, manage portfolios, and interact with on-chain protocols without human intervention at every step. The concept has been building in research circles for months, but practical deployments are starting to reach the market at a pace that is moving prices.

Three developments from the week illustrate how quickly this is progressing. Templar completed what it describes as the largest decentralized large language model pre-training run in history using its Covenant-72B model, a milestone that demonstrates on-chain AI infrastructure is maturing beyond theoretical frameworks.

MoonPay integrated with Ledger to launch what both companies describe as the first AI agent secured by a hardware signer, addressing one of the most significant trust and security concerns around autonomous agents handling real funds. KuCoin launched its Skills Hub, a platform designed to let AI agents access modular crypto capabilities, essentially building an App Store architecture for AI agent functionality on-chain.

Each of those developments is a building block. Taken together across a single week, they signal that the AI crypto infrastructure layer is being assembled faster than most market participants had anticipated.

The Top Gainers and What They Represent

The weekly top gainers list is dominated by small and micro-cap projects, which is typical when a narrative sector surges. The numbers are extreme. HotKeySwap / HOTKEY led with a 27,778% weekly gain, trading at $0.347 with a market cap of $32.8 million. QnA3.AI / GPT gained 1,427% to $0.0005233 with a market cap of $435,181. Octavia AI / VIA added 651% and TRUMP GROK / GROK gained 543%.

These are not assets with established fundamentals driving those moves. They are small-cap tokens responding to narrative momentum in a sector that is attracting fresh capital. Sentio AI / SEN rounded out the top five with a 407% weekly gain.

The gap between the sector’s total market cap growth and the individual token gains at the top of the list reflects the concentration of speculative activity. The $2.3 billion added to the sector’s overall market cap this week came from a combination of genuine infrastructure projects moving higher and highly speculative micro-cap tokens capturing disproportionate attention. Those two dynamics are running simultaneously and should be read separately.

Bitmine Buys 61,000 ETH in a Week and Calls It a Geopolitical Hedge

The Broader Connection

The AI crypto sector’s surge does not exist in isolation from the institutional trends covered in earlier reporting this week. Bitmine’s $75 million investment in Eightco, a company holding equity in OpenAI, was framed explicitly as part of its crypto treasury strategy rather than a separate bet. VeryAI raised $10 million in the week’s venture fundraising roundup for verification and AI agent tooling. Circle’s USDC is already settling roughly 98% of AI agent transactions according to analyst estimates from Clear Street and Mizuho.

The infrastructure being built across these separate stories is converging toward the same destination. AI agents need programmable money, on-chain execution environments, and verifiable identity infrastructure. The projects building those components are the ones attracting both venture capital and retail speculation simultaneously, which is a combination that tends to produce sustained sector momentum rather than a single-week spike.

Whether the 15.88% weekly gain sustains into next week depends on whether the narrative developments continue matching the pace of the past seven days. That is a high bar. But the underlying build-out is real, and the capital following it is increasingly institutional rather than purely speculative.

Fed forecasts only one rate cut in 2026, a more conservative outlook than expected

The post Fed forecasts only one rate cut in 2026, a more conservative outlook than expected appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell talks to reporters following the regular Federal Open Market Committee meetings at the Fed on July 30, 2025 in Washington, DC. Chip Somodevilla | Getty Images The Federal Reserve is projecting only one rate cut in 2026, fewer than expected, according to its median projection. The central bank’s so-called dot plot, which shows 19 individual members’ expectations anonymously, indicated a median estimate of 3.4% for the federal funds rate at the end of 2026. That compares to a median estimate of 3.6% for the end of this year following two expected cuts on top of Wednesday’s reduction. A single quarter-point reduction next year is significantly more conservative than current market pricing. Traders are currently pricing in at two to three more rate cuts next year, according to the CME Group’s FedWatch tool, updated shortly after the decision. The gauge uses prices on 30-day fed funds futures contracts to determine market-implied odds for rate moves. Here are the Fed’s latest targets from 19 FOMC members, both voters and nonvoters: Zoom In IconArrows pointing outwards The forecasts, however, showed a large difference of opinion with two voting members seeing as many as four cuts. Three officials penciled in three rate reductions next year. “Next year’s dot plot is a mosaic of different perspectives and is an accurate reflection of a confusing economic outlook, muddied by labor supply shifts, data measurement concerns, and government policy upheaval and uncertainty,” said Seema Shah, chief global strategist at Principal Asset Management. The central bank has two policy meetings left for the year, one in October and one in December. Economic projections from the Fed saw slightly faster economic growth in 2026 than was projected in June, while the outlook for inflation was updated modestly higher for next year. There’s a lot of uncertainty…
