Trump orders: All federal government agencies to immediately stop using Anthropic

PANews reported on February 28th that US President Trump stated: "I have instructed every federal agency of the US government to immediately cease using Anthropic technology. We don't need it, we don't want it, and we will no longer do business with them! For agencies like the Department of War that use Anthropic products, there will be a six-month phase-out period. Anthropic had better behave itself and provide assistance during this phase-out period; otherwise, I will use all presidential powers to force them to comply and they will face significant civil and criminal consequences." The US Secretary of Defense stated: "Effective immediately, any contractor, supplier, or partner doing business with the US military is prohibited from engaging in any commercial activities with Anthropic."

According to AXIOS, a source familiar with the matter said that key Senate defense leaders privately urged Anthropic and the Pentagon to resolve their dispute on Friday. Pressure for congressional intervention is mounting as the Pentagon and Anthropic engage in a protracted public standoff over restrictions on the use of its Claude artificial intelligence in classified environments. Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Roger Wick and the committee's ranking Democrat, Jack Reed, along with Defense Appropriations Committee Chairman Mitch McConnell and ranking Democrat Chris Koons, sent a private letter to Anthropic and the Pentagon on Friday urging both sides to resolve the issue. Anthropic and the Pentagon are still negotiating, and an agreement is possible.
